2 part canning lids

2 part canning lids

My mother used paraffin wax to seal her jelly jars even though two part lids were available when I was young. I've used the metal two part lids. I inherited some older two part lids which were a combination of glass and metal. I don't use them for canning.

If only I had a magnetic lid lifter

If only I had a magnetic lid lifter

It's a great idea to keep your lids in a simmering water bath for sanitation purposes. You can use a magnetic lid lifter to grab them (or your fingers if you're Superman™).

Here's a gentleman that was in the booth next to us and Yvette Moyo one of the founders of real men cook. My man was cooking mustard ribs and corn on the cob. Unfortunately I never got a photo of his grill. His grill was basically so big that it had a hitch and was towed to RMC(Real Men Cook).

Haiti

Haiti

Fort Liberte. North Haiti 2009.

Never! Have I heard a place get so much bad press as this gaff...

According to the people we spoke to we'd be lucky not to end up 'voodoo'd to death', kidnapped by local militias, tormented by white hating natives or even cooked in a cannibals stew...

Utter bollocks:
Yeah! Infrastructure-wise the gaff is a mess and they've got serious problems but the people were really nice, gracious despite their obvious poverty, welcoming where relevant and fairly un-interested in us otherwise. Which say's a lot for them.

It's obvious when you see the UN armoured vehicles etc that the place is no joke but in our time here we did'nt experience one single bad vibe. Which is a lot more than can be said for other places.. Imagine 2 black men walking through downtown Moscow or somewhere similarly 'white', even if the intention was un-sinister people would stare. Not in this place. The only attention we got was at the border where we encountered the 'expected' touts (Ive met a lot worse), from the UN soldiers (Uruguayan) who stared at us, no doubt thinking 'what are these pair of loons doing here' and from the sweetest pair of school girls I've ever seen in my life. They were about 8 or 9 years old and without a care in the world they came up to me and my friend smiling and giggling they stared at us in awe like we'd come from Mars.. One of them took my friend by the hand and just kept staring up at him with the biggest and best smile I've seen in a long while. it was a surreal moment that would have touched the heart of the coldest person. The last time I experienced something similar was in Ireland a few years ago when I painted at an event in Drogheda. The local young girls were totally enamoured with 2 of the lads that were painting there (2 black fellas) but though they stared it was with genuine curiosity. One of them even called one of the guy's over with the immortal words "hey you brown lad, my mate likes ya". Which was cool and about as quaint and in-offensive as racial terminology can get.. The incident in Haiti was similar. These are good people with good hearts that bare their lot in life with pride and dignity... They even let me walk around doing throw-ups and tags..

Merci Fort Liberte. Bon chance.

Taken in the parking lot of an In-N-Out Burger.

The Hidden In-N-Out Burger (aka In and Out Burger) - The Most Accurate Secret Menu

In-N-Out Burger has a secret unpublished menu for insiders who are In-The-Know. Next time you're at In-N-Out (i.e. tomorrow . . . or maybe tonight), order a bag of these off-the-menu specials:

"3-by-3" = three meat patties and three slices of cheese.

"4-by-4" = four meat patties and four slices of cheese.

"2-by-4" = two meat patties and four slices of cheese.

*Note: You can get a burger with as many meat patties or cheese slices as you want. Just tell the In-N-Out Burger cashier how many meat patties and how much cheese you want and that is what you'll get! For instance, if you want 6 pieces of meat and 10 pieces of cheese tell them you want a "6-by-10."

"Double Meat" = like a Double Double without cheese.

"3 by Meat" = three meat patties and no cheese.

"Animal Style" = the meat is cooked and fried with mustard and then pickles are added, extra spread and grilled onions are added.

"Animal Style Fries" = fries with cheese, spread, grilled onions and pickles (if you ask for them).

"Protein Style" = for all you low-carbohydrate dieters, this is a burger with no bun (wrapped in lettuce).

"Flying Dutchman" = two meat patties, two slices of melted cheese and nothing else - not even a bun!

Fries "Well-Done" = extra crispy fries . . . even better than the regular!

Fries "Light" = opposite of fries well-done, more raw than most people like 'em

"Grilled Cheese" = no meat, just melted cheese, tomato, lettuce and spread on a bun.

"Veggie Burger" = burger without the patty or cheese. Sometimes we call this the "Wish Burger."

"Neapolitan" Shake = strawberry, vanilla and chocolate blended together.

The friendly employees of In-N-Out Burger will take your special order without question, if you use the right terminology. The printed receipt will have your special request typed on it just as we said it.

Try it!
